Humans Try to Control Nature

Part 1)
Term or name
Significance
Nomad
-They have no settled home, moving from place to place to get their food and needs.
-For tens of thousands of years, men and women were living their lives as nomads during the stone ages to survive
Hunter-Gatherer
-Nomadic groups that depended on hunting animals and collecting plant foods
-They were known for creating special spears that made it easier to kill animals for their meat
Neolithic Revolution
-Also known as the Agricultural Revolution
-The far-reaching and very old changes in human life resulting from the beginnings of farming.
-One of the biggest changes in history
Slash and burn farming
-Cutting trees or grasses and burning them to clear a field out. Any of the ashes from the burning that remained were used to fertilize the soil
-The farmers then planted crops for around a year or two but then moved to another area of land
Domestication
-Known as the taming or controlling of animals
-Just like farming, the domestication of animals was a slow process
-Early Stone Age hunters would sometimes bring herds of animals to certain places like ravines to be slaughtered
Part 2)
I think the Slash and burn farming was the most important and contributed the most because this allowed farmers to consistently have food or crops growing at all times and be able to move from place to place for more crops. But also the environment would later grow back for either another group to use it or it is back to what it was at first, and it isn't being harmed after all.
Part 3)
The spears and tools that they made were allowing humans to kill animals from more distance away and not risking either injury or missing making it easier on them. They also created fish hooks and harpoons to now catch the fish in the water for even more food so there is a lesser chance of starvation. Also were able to use bone needles to sew clothes made of animal hides together.
Part 4)
A huge role in the origins of agriculture were the communities that were being formed, so there was a need to farm and produce a surplus amount of their own foods, and then more for others as well. There was many newly formed communities coming along during that time.
Part 5) Tobacco was the first crop grown for money in North America. In 1612, the settlers of Jamestown grew tobacco as one of their cash crops. It was their fastest way of making money. Some of the other cash crops found in Jamestown were corn, cotton, wheat, sugar, and soa beans.
